and joins us live with the details. >> reporter: what a tough story. paul warren partis was apparently distraught over his mother's postoperative care. the wounded doctor, an associate professor and orthopedic surgeon, david b. cohen underwent surgery and is expected to survive. moments after a doctor briefed partis about his mother's condition, he opened fire. >> removed a small semi- automatic handgun from his waist area, waistband area, and fired a single gunshot that struck the doctor in the lower chest, upper abdomen. >> reporter: as s.w.a.t. teams surrounded the building, the hospital went into lockdown. >> i'm about to leave and i was leaving they said get back. >> my boss came running in to tell me exactly basically to stay put where i'm at, because there is a guy running around with a gun and we don't know what he's going to do. >> reporter: some hospital staffers say partis was angry that his mother's spinal surgery allegedly left her paralyzed. >> a lot of people were scared because they didn't know where the guy would go shooting next. >> reporter: dominique jones' sister w
